	Genetwister Technologies B.V. is an innovative biotechnology company, specialized in genomic breeding and green biotechnology of agri- and horticultural crops. Genetwister is an expert in identification and isolation of genes involved in various physiological and developmental processes using expression profiling and functional genomic approaches in combination with proprietary software. These genes are applied as bio-markers for genomic breeding, as tools in green biotechnology and for the creation of diagnostic tests.
	History
	The company was founded in 1998 by dr. A.D. de Boer and dr. ir. D.A.M. van der Kop. In 2003 the company moved to its present location. Initially the focus of the company was marker discovery for diagnostics and tool development for genetic modification, but over the years this shifted and expanded towards high throughput marker discovery and practical application and development of both genomic breeding and green biotechnology tools. The accumulating information in bio-marker, genetic and gene-expression databases required the development of advanced software for data-storage, data-analyzes and data-visualization and a bio-informatics group was established in 2004. A large patent portfolio was generated to protect the crucial expertise. Since 2006 the Genetwister Group was established to provide structure for the many joint ventures with partners and affiliates in Africa and Asia that were founded to support the world-wide activities and to extend the capabilities and expertise of the group. In 2009 Bejo Seeds and East-West Seed Group acquired shares of the company.
	Expertise
	The company employs a group of qualified researchers and technicians with excellent skills in genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry and bio-informatics. A staff of dedicated senior managers, with a profound experience in the field of biotechnology, supervises the company. The laboratories are equipped with state of the art computerized equipment for marker discovery and marker detection, functional genomics, biochemistry and a range of tissue culture techniques. An advanced high performance in house data centre with massive computing power supports the Bio-informatics Department. Genetwister cooperates with research institutes, universities and companies worldwide. Its customers are mainly active in the international agri- and horticultural production and processing chain.
