Genetwister Technologies appoints Michiel van Eijk as Chief Executive Officer

Genetwister Technologies is pleased to announce the appointment of Michiel van Eijk as its Chief Executive Officer. He will join Genetwister on 15 March 2020, succeeding Gabino Sanchez-Perez.

“We are excited to welcome Michiel to Genetwister as our new CEO,” said Joost Pekelharing, the chair of Genetwister’s supervisory board. “He brings to the position a wealth of research knowledge and an array of experiences in the agricultural, horticultural and ornamental industries at the national and global levels.”

“This is an exciting time for Genetwister. The organization is growing and exploring new technologies on behalf of its shareholders and customers. Michiel’s background in science, research and industry, coupled with his managerial experience, will ensure that Genetwister remains at the forefront of research and technology in the field of plant breeding and will help take the company to the next level.”

Michiel van Eijk earned a MSc in animal sciences from Wageningen Agricultural University and a PhD in animal sciences from the University of Illinois at UrbanaChampaign. After working at the Hubrecht Laboratory, Netherlands Institute for Developmental Biology, and at the Wilhelmina Children’s Hospital, Van Eijk joined KeyGene, where he served in various R&D and IP management roles, most recently that of Chief Scientific Officer. Van Eijk is a board member of HollandBIO, the Dutch biotech industry association.

“We look forward to working with Michiel as we continue to develop tools and technologies to improve crop quality, which will help farmers to work more sustainably while safeguarding the world’s food supply,” Pekelharing said.
