The Genomics team assists in the development of cultivars with superior quality through practical application of high throughput sequencing and genotyping technologies. By staying at the forefront of technological developments in these fields, the team is able to recommend the most promising technologies for application by our shareholders and use them in projects for our customers. We leverage our expertise in molecular and computational biology to make further advancements for improved application in breeding.

Currently, one of the main focus points in the molecular breeding (r)evolution is the increased output and read lengths of next-generation sequencing (NGS) platforms. The Genomics team anticipates on these developments by implementing and optimizing protocols for high throughput DNA isolation and sequence library preparation. The isolation of pure high molecular weight DNA is essential to benefit optimally from the long read lengths of NGS platforms. In addition, we continuously evaluate novel genotyping methods and optimize the throughput and turn-around times of selected workflows and apply them in molecular breeding projects and Genomic Selection programs.
